Well, this is clearly not mastered and it seems like it hasn’t even been properly mixed yet. But, uh, I don’t know what else to say. It’s pretty much like all the other songs, although this is kind of an upbeat/dance song that could have been on the Sega Genesis Sonic soundtrack. I’m not sure how Kanye is getting away with releasing this album, but apparently he’s on to something if people like it so much.

Actually, on second listen, it’s kind of a cool track. Reminds me a little of early MGMT. It’s so hard for me to listen to Kanye songs with poor production.

But even with my bias, this is solid track. It has all the classic elements of a good Little Brother song: lyrics that combine indignant, maverick, I’ll-do-whatever-it-takes-to-get-mine optimism with blatant negativity in a 80% to 20% ratio. A soulful beat. And it even has 9th Wonder’s punchy snares like back in the good old days when he was in LB (he produces this particular track). Plus I’m a sucker for disjointed sample-based beats (like this and especially this).

The track will be on their album Separate But Equal, which drops on November 4th.

It was on Nah Right like a month ago, but oh well. If you haven’t heard it, you really should.

I’m an increasingly big fan of Atlas Sound, Bradford Cox’s (of Deerhunter) solo project. He’s one of a few indie artists that I think are actually doing something kind of original. That said, this track reminds me quite a bit of Sung Tongs Animal Collective (but maybe I just like jumping to that conclusion). It took me a couple listens to get into it, but I like the track.

In case you’re curious, after the break is my favorite Atlas Sound song (off the free Things I’ll Miss EP).

I thought about this for a long time. No matter how I look at it, it sounds like a terrible idea. Common does not need a “feel good” album. It is the lyrical complexity and social consciousness of his work that makes him so great in the first place. To replace that with some already tired-sounding Neptunes beats and Pharrell telling me to shake my behind is akin to taking an eclair and replacing the cream in the center with mud. He should stick to what he’s good at, it’s as simple as that.

But I mean, this is pretty good.

Charles Hamilton — Ronald McDonald

I have mixed feelings about Charles Hamilton. I mean, he’s pretty good for some kid, but there is absolutely no reason this dude should be featured on OkayPlayer, Nah Right, etc. This guy clearly has some ridiculous connections, and it makes me question the integrity of these major blogs when they’ll put up this guy’s music when he’s obviously not on a professional level yet. Still, he’ll probably get there pretty soon. And this particular track is, like I said, pretty good. Check it out.

It’s an improvement over the original, but still…

While I’m in Cape Town, I want to get an internship at a recording studio. So in the next week I’m putting together a bunch of beats that I’ve made recently to give  as samples of my work, and I’ll be putting them up here as well. I’m proud of these beats, and I think you’ll like them. I don’t have time to put them up now, but here‘s a sneak preview of what’s to come.

Edit: What the hell, I’ll put up one more.

Oh, and anyone who can figure out the samples gets my respect for a long time.
